Thanks to Chris Lawton Smith for the contribution.

Dear <Associate>

I have been provided with your name and contact details by one of our Associate Co-ordinators for WHAM, with a view to my taking you out on the first of your observed rides. I have been assigned as your Observer and over the course of the coming weeks and months, would hope to get you to a standard sufficient to take your IAM Advanced Motorcycle test.

Hopefully by now you should have received your IAM pack, please start to familiarise yourself with it, as well as taking the opportunity to review the most up-to-date version of the Highway Code. Let me know if it hasn’t yet arrived.

At our first meeting, I will require a completed IAM Document Declaration in lieu of licence, insurance and bike checks. If you are yet to receive one, don’t worry, I carry spares. Please also ensure that your riding kit and motorcycle are legal and in good general roadworthy condition along with a full tank of fuel before each meeting.

My availability is <e.g. weekends only with Saturday mornings being my preference>. Let me know when your ideal time is and we will try to make it work for both of us.

It would be helpful for me if you can also tell me what bike you currently ride, together with letting me know for how long you have been riding.

Please don’t hesitate to call on the number below if you would rather talk than type – do leave a message if I can’t pick up.

I look forward to hearing from you.

With my best wishes,

<Observer>
