When and where?
This year’s WHAM Rider Skills Day is on Sunday 17th May from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm at Sutton St Nicholas Village Hall (HR1 3SZ).
WHAM are providing a great incentive this year to Riders who sign up for Skill for Life with WHAM on the day, we are offering a £40.00 discount so you just pay £99.00 for the training from start to test. (Usual price £139.00).
Who Is It For?
WHAM Rider Skills Days are for any rider with a full motorcycle licence. You may have been riding for years or may have just passed your test; you can be a sports bike rider or ride a large touring machine; you can have done track days or advanced training; you could have attended BikeSafe sessions or done no additional awareness courses at all. In other words – all are welcome and everybody will get something out of the day.
How Much Is It?
The Rider Skills Days are completely free!!
The Ride?
After meeting your IAM observer you will have a short introductory chat. You will then have a 40 minute ride with a small break in the middle so you can discuss various riding techniques. The observer may well then give a demonstration ride to show you the techniques of advanced motorcycling, before you take the lead again back to base.
The Assessment?
When back at base, the observer will discuss your ride with you and complete a simple ‘Ride Assessment’ form for you to keep. The emphasis is on a safe, smooth, systematic and progressive (up to the legal limits where safe to do so) ride. You will be advised of how to improve your road riding skills and thereby hopefully reduce your chances of being involved in a traffic incident.
How Long Will It Take?
Because most rides will be pre-booked you should normally be able to complete the whole session in 1½ hours. However, we don’t want you to leave until you are ready and do hope that you will take advantage of enjoying some refreshments (at very reasonable prices) and chatting to other WHAM members who have recently completed the IAM ‘Skills for Life’ advanced motorcycling programme.
